PRODUCTS / MECHANICAL GRATES

The air cooled mechanical grate is designed to effectively burn all kinds of biomass, ranging from dry wood waste to humid poultry litter.

The grate manufactured by KEM is equipped with several rows of cast iron grate elements connected to a hydraulic drive system. The grate elements transports the fuel across the grate area, and thereby ensures an even distribution of the fuel on the grate. By keeping the fuel in constant motion, an improved burn-out of the fuel is achieved.

The grate is equipped with multiple air-zones with individually adjustable air supply and grate speed. The primary combustion air is blown into the air zones, and continues through the integrated nozzles of the grate elements. The system ensures a correct distribution of the primary air across the whole grate area, and the nozzles makes sure that the air is blown directly into the fuel.

The grate is modular build, meaning that one or more grates can be connected and thus making it possible to build biomass boilers in many sizes using the same general design.

Each grate can be individually adjusted regarding air flow, grate speed and stroke of the grate elements.

Main advantages are:

- reduced emissions
- improved efficiency
- low percentage of unburned material
- improved consistency of the steam cond.
- flexibility towards fuel variations
- possibilities of burning with low O2 content
